Facility Size:

Project Owner:
UC Berkeley
Project Overview:

The Gateway will be a new academic building on the UC Berkeley campus with an anticipated daily occupancy of approximately 1,325 faculty, students, researchers, and staff. Over the course of Precertification, Turner Construction has committed to ambitious zero waste objectives through the adoption of a zero waste company policy, leadership and contractor training, waste tracking and audits. Turner’s Sustainability Manager conducts monthly audits and offers recommendations to divert waste. Turner has collaborated with UC Berkeley and Cal Zero Waste to engage campus stakeholders and students in the Precertification process.

"With construction and demolition (C&D) waste making up over a quarter of California’s landfills, it was important to the client and our team that we do our part to maximize our diversion as much as possible," explained Emi LaFountain, Sustainability Integration Manager at Turner Construction Company. "TRUE provides a great framework of best practices for us to be able to do just that.”
